Where my Head Hits the Pillow, and my heart won’t stop beating.

You inspired me to think of home,
You asked the question
and I’ve thought,
about how home flies around on my shoulders,
isn’t that why swallows are inked on my back?
The sailors sought land
and knew it was near;
I never wanted to feel so lost again.

You inspired me to think of home,
You raised the question
and I’ve thought
about how I lived in more places than I am years
How many states did I enter,
How many houses held my things?
Only to see that my personality follows me.

You inspired me to think of home
You asked the question
and I’ve thought
placement doesn’t matter
all the people and flowers are the same
until I meet my ones and only
and I burrow into their rib cages
slowly and surely
I leave pieces of me wherever I go.
.
You inspired me to think of home
you asked the right question
and I’ve thought
that I may never know
because pictures lie
almost as much as memories do
the empty smiles
remind myself that the home I build
isn’t just my own.
